Beware These Organizations:
Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)
People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
Truly Dog Friendly (TDF)
International Association of Positive Dog Trainers (IAPDT)
No Shock Collar Coalition (NSCC)
The first three organizations have innocent enough names. Who is
against a Humane Society, or Ethical Treatment of Animals or people that care
about being Truly Friendly to Dogs? Whoever does not support these
organizations must be a monster, right? Or are they just well
informed professionals in the dog world?
Are they really "for" what you think they are for
however? I would bet not. Here are some articles where
you can make your own decisions.

Breed Specific Legislation:
There are unfortunate, well-publicized incidents that occur on occasion
between humans and dogs. It is my opinion that these are
usually the result of handler error (not training the dog, letting the dog
"loose" in the neighborhood, encouraging a dog to be aggressive, and
just plain negligence). In other words, irresponsible owners cause
the problem, and then easily targeted breeds get blamed for the
problem. If your insurance company has ever asked you what breed you
own, this is part of the breed specific bias that goes on today. Or
maybe your in an unlucky part of the world where you are not allowed to own a
breed there period. Or perhaps, you need to muzzle your dog, who has
never bitten anyone, every time you take them out for a walk
now.
The good people abiding by the new breed laws are not (nor were)
usually the problem. The irresponsible owners will continue to
be, and their dogs may be the ones we next see on the evening news.
Please spread the following message "punish the deed not the breed".
Please take a moment to educate yourself on these topics if you care for dogs
at all. I have provided the following links below (these links are

The Term Guardian, why is it a problem?
Are you your dog's guardian? Seems an innocent enough question,
but if you answer "yes", you may be unaware of what you are answering
to. I know just a few months ago, I had no clue that an answer of
"yes" might limit my right to train my dog properly, my right to own a
certain breed, my right to make certain decisions regarding my dog's level of
comfort in later years, and an unending host of other rights that I have taken
for granted when I "own" my dog. The term "own"
in of itself always bothered my husband and I, and so we started using the term
"caregiver", which has not yet been used in legislative
bills. What we did not know, is that there may some day be, and
there is a movement sweeping through the nation, that seeks to change laws to
specifically use the word "guardian". Legally, a
guardian's rights are limited, and at the mercy of the popular movements of the
day. Obviously, only the sick minded want abuse to happen to any
living creature, and this term will do very little to protect our
dogs. There are already legal remedies to abuse, and could they be
better? Absolutely, but the guardian movement will not make this
happen. Here are some links you can use to research this subject (these
links are chosen for their good information, and not necessarily as an
endorsement to support these organizations):

Designer Breeds & Breeding in General
I am not against mutts. Our shelters are filled with them, and
with pure bred dogs. What I am against is another trend that adds to
the puppy mill factory. The designer breeds are marketing as more
intelligent, non-shedding, and somehow superior to mutts. Everyone
is buying into this newest trend your backyard breeder, your puppy mills, your
neighbor next door who just wants their kids to experience the miracle of birth
(and of course make a buck too in the process). As far as I am concerned,
there are not that many breeders who should actually be breeding, and those that
I do feel good about, keep to the highest standard of their breed, health
testing, and ongoing support for adopters. The rest feed and overtax
the animal shelters. Consumers are buying into the hype that these
are the perfect dogs, and in fact these are dogs just like any other. They
deserve and need the same care and training as any other dog. Here are
some links (one humorous that I may pull out later), about pet over population,
the theory behind designer breeds (please note that top breeders in already AKC
approved breeds work on these issues within their own breed), and some
statistics on euthanasia rates in the USA:
